Monte Matanna

Monte Matanna (1317 m a.s.l.), located in the municipality of Stazzema (LU), is the highest relief in the southern Apuan Alps, with its characteristic pyramidal shape. The splendid panorama observable from its summit embraces the whole mountain range, Camaiore and Versilia, and the sea. Near the top there is a small lake (called Il Bozzone). The massif also includes Monte Nona (1296 m a.s.l.) and Monte Procinto (1173 m a.s.l.), separated from the main relief by the Callare Pass (1139 m a.s.l.).

The summit of the mountain can be reached by passing through Casoli along the C.A.I. path number 2, taking the connection with the path 101, and the path 3, up to the Alto Matanna Refuge, whose summit of the mountain is located above.

The Refuge, which can also be reached directly by car, allows you to stay overnight and has a restaurant service.

At the refuge we can also observe a large number of animals such as horses,

cows,

pheasants, peacocks, ducks, turkeys, and protected animals.

Exactly above the refuge we reach the top of the mountain,

which offers an exceptional view of the Apuan Alps, Versilia and the sea.
